If the Clover Blue Eagles were riding high off their 65-41 takedown of the Nation Ford Falcons last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Clover took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blythewood on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Clover has scored all season.
Clover's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylon Hoover, who scored 17 points. Harley Lail was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Blythewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mujahid Jones led the charge by scoring eight points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Austin Coker, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Clover's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Blythewood, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Clover won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Spring Valley at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for Blythewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rock Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Blythewood is ranked 11th).
