Baseball Game Preview: Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack vs. Pleasant Grove Eagles

For the second straight game, Cosumnes Oaks will face off against Pleasant Grove. The Wolfpack will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cosumnes Oaks fell victim to Pleasant Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 12-0 to the Eagles. The Wolfpack have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

For Pleasant Grove's part, Jake Dougherty looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Dougherty also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Pleasant Grove got a massive performance out of Varin Verma, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Noah Newby was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Pleasant Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Cosumnes Oaks' defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Pleasant Grove, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
