The Ashley Screaming Eagle are taking a road trip to challenge the East Columbus Gators at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashley has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ashley is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Tuesday. They lost 17-3 to Laney.
Ashley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skyler Horrell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for East Columbus, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They never let West Columbus get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Gators have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gracie Coyle made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Coyle was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, East Columbus got a massive performance out of Mackenzi Clemmons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Clemmons has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Smith, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
East Columbus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
East Columbus has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Ashley suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to East Columbus when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Screaming Eagle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
