Solon and Nordonia are an even 3-3-1 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Comets will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nordonia took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Solon, who comes in off a win.
Solon barely beat Stow-Munroe Falls the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Comets were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bulldogs on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Comets.
Kassidy Samuelraj spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Grace Gerhard was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Alyssa Gerome was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Gerhard wasn't the only one making solid contact: Solon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Comets are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Nordonia's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to North Royalton, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Solon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Nordonia, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Solon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Nordonia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Solon suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Nordonia in their previous meeting on Monday. Will the Comets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
