Chandler Prep has gone 7-2 against Veritas Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Titans will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Chandler Prep is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Chandler Prep had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt North Valley Christian Academy on Wednesday. The Titans blew past the Lions 12-4. Considering the Titans have won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Colman Smith and Emet Yates did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Yates scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Yates has posted since back in March. Derek Tucker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Chandler Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Valley Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .276.
Meanwhile, Veritas Prep beat Arizona Lutheran Academy 6-2 on Wednesday.
Cade Huseth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Veritas Prep let Jack Mason and Logan Cortes run wild. Mason scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Cortes went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Cortes has become a key player for Veritas Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tico Lentz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Chandler Prep pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Veritas Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chandler Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Veritas Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chandler Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Veritas Prep when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 10-5. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
