Clifton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Westfield Blue Devils at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clifton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Clifton fell victim to Union City's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were the victim of a rough 21-0 loss at the hands of the Soaring Eagles. While losing is never fun, Clifton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Union City is ranked 33rd).
Meanwhile, Westfield never let their opponents score on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 17-0 victory over Hillsborough.
Westfield can attribute much of their success to Enzo Ferrero, who picked up 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Max Cho, who threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes.
Westfield's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Maxwell Romano and Zac Wragg who racked up four sacks between them.
Clifton's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Union City, Northern Highlands, and Passaic County Tech. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
