Smithsburg is 0-8 against Boonsboro since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smithsburg Leopards will head out on the road to face off against the Boonsboro Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Smithsburg is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 40-6, which was the final score in Smithsburg's tilt against Tucker County on Friday. While losing is never fun, Smithsburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 168th in Maryland, while Tucker County is ranked 33rd in West Virginia).
Meanwhile, Boonsboro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past North Hagerstown 42-13 at home. The result was nothing new for Boonsboro, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Boonsboro got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chad Wyand out in front who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Dash Mussolino was in the mix too, providing Boonsboro with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding North Hagerstown to a paltry 249 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Boonsboro's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Nate Elliott and his two sacks.
Tucker County's victory bumped their season record to 8-0 while Smithsburg's loss dropped theirs to 3-5.
Smithsburg was dealt a bruising 31-0 loss at the hands of Boonsboro in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can Smithsburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
