The University Titans will face off against the Spruce Creek Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
University is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over DeLand. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Addison Pertler was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Delgado, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Spruce Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over West Port on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Wolf Pack: they've now won four in a row.
Spruce Creek also got a great performance from Aubrey Yeary as she struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Yeary has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexis Minaberry was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Avery Helms, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Spruce Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Port only posted a batting average of .267.
Spruce Creek's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 17-7.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Spruce Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
University couldn't quite finish off Spruce Creek in their previous meeting back in March and fell 6-4. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
