The Southern Columbia Area Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Warrior Run Defenders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southern Columbia Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Southern Columbia Area will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Hughesville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers beat the Spartans on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Southern Columbia Area got a great performance from Guy Longenberger as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Longenberger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brayden Andrews was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Kole Myers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Warrior Run strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Bloomsburg get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Defenders considering their one-run performance the game before.
James Keifer and Tyler Ulrich made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Keifer didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Ulrich pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Keifer scored three runs while going 1-for-5, while Ulrich scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Ulrich also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Betz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cohen Zechman, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
Warrior Run was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bloomsburg only posted a batting average of .095.
Warrior Run pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average this season. As for Southern Columbia Area, their record now sits at 8-3.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southern Columbia Area hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Warrior Run struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southern Columbia Area suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Warrior Run in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
