Largo hasn't had much luck against Frederick Douglass recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lions will square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Largo faced off against Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South on Monday. The Lions came up short against the Tigers, falling 35-11.
Meanwhile, Frederick Douglass strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Fairmont Heights as they made off with a 25-5 win. Considering the Eagles have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Merrell Lloyd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Frederick Douglass got a massive performance out of Eric Guzman, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those five hits gave Guzman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Gaymon, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Frederick Douglass was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Frederick Douglass' record now sits at 11-0. As for Largo, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Largo suffered a grim 30-2 defeat to Frederick Douglass in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
