The Valley Falls Dragons lost against the Jackson Heights Cobras back in March of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Valley Falls falling 56-37. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points they have scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Valley Falls lost, one person who can't be blamed is Korie Kirkwood. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Kirkwood's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Brown, who scored six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jackson Heights to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chesnea Cochren, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Cochren also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Cochren, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Valley Falls and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Jackson Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Valley Falls will head out on the road to face off against Jefferson County North at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson County North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Valley Falls in Kansas (Jefferson County North is ranked 109th, while Valley Falls is ranked 253rd). As for Jackson Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McLouth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McLouth comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
