The Einstein Titans pushed their score all the way to 56 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Magruder. While losing is never fun, Einstein can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Colonels are ranked 63rd).
Einstein's loss came despite strong showings from Tekli Adhanom and Logan Donnelly. Adhanom dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Donnelly scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Donnelly has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Leule Lakew, who scored six points along with seven assists.
It was another big night for Aiden Dabbondanza, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two blocks for Magruder. The team also got some help courtesy of Sekou Bangoura, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Einstein has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Magruder, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Einstein is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Bengals at 7:15 p.m. on January 30th. Blake is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Magruder, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. Walter Johnson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Colonels likes a good challenge.
