The Athens Wildcats will face off against the Wellsboro Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Wellsboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Athens made easy work of Wyalusing Valley and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kamdyn Wheeler spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit.

On the hitting side, Brady Flynn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Troy Rosenbloom was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Wellsboro had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Black Knights a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Towanda's batters probably weren't too happy with Maxwell Mascho, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up a single walk).
At the plate, Wellsboro's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Morral, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Morral has snagged this season.
Wellsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Athens' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wellsboro, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Athens took their victory against Wellsboro in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-10 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
