Basketball Recap: Dove Creek Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Dove Creek came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Mancos Bluejays with a sharp 58-34 win. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Ralynn Hickman was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hampton, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards.

Dove Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Mancos saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tinsley Aspromonte almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 61.8% of Mancos' points, marking the third time in a row Aspromonte has posted more than a third of the team's points. Aurelia Garcia also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first board of the season.

Dove Creek's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 16.8 points over those games. As for Mancos, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Dove Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 0-0 win against Ouray on the 21st. As for Mancos, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 41-20 victory against Dolores on the 21st.
