Piketon and Zane Trace are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Redstreaks will square off against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Piketon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Piketon was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Eastern on Wednesday. The Redstreaks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Redstreaks have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyndall Carroll made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Carroll was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
In other batting news, Danika Ritchie was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Aubrey Heath was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Piketon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Zane Trace walked away with it. They skirted past the Fighting Tigers 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pioneers have posted since April 7th.
Like Piketon, Zane Trace also got a great game from a two-way player: Brynn Wipert. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). Wipert has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Reagan Arthurs was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Piketon's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Zane Trace, their record now sits at 9-17.
Zane Trace's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Piketon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .506. It's a different story for Zane Trace, though, as they've only averaged .299. Will they be able to contain Piketon's hitters?
Piketon was able to grind out a solid win over Zane Trace in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redstreaks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
