Baseball Recap: Serra Catholic Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Serra Catholic won the last time they faced Western Beaver and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles blew past the Golden Beavers 10-1. Considering the Eagles have won six matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Skaggs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Black, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jake Holmes, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Serra Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Serra Catholic pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Western Beaver, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serra Catholic will head out to take on Clairton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Western Beaver, they will head out on the road to face off against Union Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Scotties have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.43 runs per game on average), something the Golden Beavers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
