The East Duplin Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 70-45 loss at the hands of Heide Trask. While losing is never fun, East Duplin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 600th, while the Titans are ranked 148th).
When it comes to explaining why East Duplin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Calvin Harper. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sedrick Lawson, who scored ten points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Heide Trask to victory, but perhaps none more so than Myron Mckoy, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and four steals. Mckoy is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Martez Davis, who scored 17 points.
East Duplin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season. As for Heide Trask, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.
Both teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heide Trask has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 603 points over their last nine contests. As for they, they will be playing at home against East Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. East Duplin is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
