The Choctaw County Chargers will venture away from home to challenge the Winona Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Choctaw County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 43 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Noxubee County on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 8-7 to the Tigers. Despite 88 more yards than the Tigers, the Chargers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the defeat, Choctaw County got top-tier performance from Jeramiah Miller, who rushed for 129 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. Miller's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
While Choctaw County came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Noxubee County: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 40%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Benjarvius Shumaker, Jayvion Lowery, Quayvion Lowery, and Quaysie Lane, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Choctaw County; they were averaging 57.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 57.9%.

Choctaw County's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Shumaker was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Shumaker is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Winona earned a 14-7 victory over PURE Academy on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Choctaw County better keep an eye on Landon Crawford. He was instrumental in Winona's win, rushing for 95 yards on only 11 carries.
Choctaw County's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Winona, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Choctaw County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 194.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Winona struggles in that department as they've been averaging 242.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Choctaw County strolled past Winona in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 41-27. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' Zaishun Nash, who rushed for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Chargers to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
