Foxcroft Academy is a perfect 4-0 against Washington Academy since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Ponies will head out to square off against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Foxcroft Academy will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Foxcroft Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Orono 14-12.
Calvin Landry made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Landry was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Lucas Sands was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Josh Knapp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Foxcroft Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orono only managed ten hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Washington Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over Mount Desert Island. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
Like Foxcroft Academy, Washington Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: James Welch. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Welch has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colby Moholland, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Daniel Gardner, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Foxcroft Academy's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Washington Academy, their record is now 2-0.
Foxcroft Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Washington Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Ponies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
