5A Centennial recap Sept. 26, 2012
Austin Conway of Overland ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Centennial this season against Poudre last week. Conway's team defeated the Impalas as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 189 in all.
Reece Weber and Tanner Gentry provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Mullen. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 89 yards.
Weber threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns. He went 15-25 with zero interceptions.
Frank Thomas was the best wideout in the league this week as Smoky Hill beat Standley Lake. Thomas tallied eight receptions for 186 yards. Joey Tuggle helped Smoky Hill's passing attack out by catching five balls for 44 yards.
Grandview's Weber and Gentry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Centennial in both passing and receiving yards. Weber has thrown for 753 yards this season, while Gentry, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 24 catches for 524 yards. Tahj Willingham from Cherry Creek leads the league in rushing with 603 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Cherokee Trail takes on second place Smoky Hill. Cherokee Trail beat Regis Jesuit last week, while the Buffaloes defeated the Gators.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Eaglecrest takes on the Wolves. The Raptors' offense has recorded 172 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Grandview has permitted only 109 on the year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Smoky Hill takes on the Cougars. John Thompson's team has allowed 52 points this season, while Cherokee Trail has given up 31. The Buffaloes allowed 7 points last week as they bested Standley Lake.
Monte Thelen's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Raiders, 24-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
