The Hawley Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Sonora Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hawley had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Panhandle 59-16 on the road. The win was nothing new for Hawley as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Hawley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Diontay Ramon out in front who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 110 receiving yards and a touchdown. Ramon was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 65 yards. Another player making a difference was Keagan Ables, who threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.1 yards per attempt.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hawley's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ramon and Hunter Hudson who racked up four sacks between them.
Farwell typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday Sonora proved too difficult a challenge. Sonora really took it to Farwell for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-14 win on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sonora.
Sonora can attribute much of their success to Edgar Deluna, who gained 148 total yards and a touchdown, and Jaime Buitron, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Hawley to 10-2 and Panhandle to 10-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Hawley has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 350.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Sonora struggles in that department as they've been even better at 357.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Everything came up roses for Hawley against Sonora in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 57-26 victory. Does Hawley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sonora turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
