Calhoun is 2-8 against Gilmer County since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Calhoun Red Devils will be home for the holidays to greet the Gilmer County Titans at 7:30 p.m. Calhoun knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Gilmer County likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, the stars were shining brightly for Calhoun in a 62-47 victory over Valley.
Calhoun got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Bennett out in front who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Bennett's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Taylor, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Gilmer County, who are still winless after their fourth matchup. They took a serious blow against Doddridge County on Friday, falling 100-54. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gilmer County in their matchups with Doddridge County: they've now lost three in a row.
The win got Calhoun back to even at 2-2. As for Gilmer County, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4.
Calhoun came up short against Gilmer County when the teams last played back in February, falling 47-35. Can Calhoun avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
