The Goleman Gators pushed their score all the way to 71 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 83-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Varela. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Thursday (61), Goleman still had to take the loss.
Goleman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Frudrias Porter, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Porter has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Anthony Otero-Puriaman, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Goleman has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Varela, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Goleman will head out on the road to square off against Mourning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece. As for Varela, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sunset at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunset has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
