Baseball Recap: Bushland Extends Winning Streak to Five

Bushland waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Childress Bobcats by a score of 12-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-5 on March 11th.

Wade McConnell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bushland is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise. McConnell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Max Rodriguez and Ty Askins did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Askins scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Askins is becoming a predictor of Bushland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Colton Strickland, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Bushland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bushland's record now sits at 11-9. As for Childress, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7-1.

Bushland has already played their next contest (against Dalhart), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Childress, they will square off against Tulia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
