The Riverdale Rams will face off against the Sherrard Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Riverdale 2.9, Sherrard 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sherrard will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Riverdale extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Rams never let Mercer County get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Danika Saddoris's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Breckin DeLaRosa, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April. Brooklyn Peterson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Riverdale lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercer County didn't launched any home runs.
Kewanee hit Sherrard with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boilermakers. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Boilermakers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Makenzy Moran was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Sherrard's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Riverdale, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverdale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Sherrard struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverdale skirted past Sherrard 10-8 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
