They took a 63-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Carver High School of Engineering & Science. While losing is never fun, Simon Gratz can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Carver High School of Engineering & Science is ranked 127th).
When it comes to explaining why Simon Gratz lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jabrelle Dennison. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. The match was Dennison's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sihaaj Johnson, who scored 12 points.
It was another big night for Fareed Brown, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 3 assists for Carver High School of Engineering & Science. Those 32 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Samir Roberts-mouzon, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Simon Gratz's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Carver High School of Engineering & Science, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Simon Gratz will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Germantown Friends at 1:30 p.m. on January 6th. As for Carver High School of Engineering & Science, they will take on Boys' Latin Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Boys' Latin Charter is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
