Two dominant guards in Amiyah Clark-Lamelle and Tacoya Heyward are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Greer Yellow Jackets will take on the Bluffton Bobcats in a holiday battle at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at. Hopefully Greer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Greer's game was all tied up 25-25 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to James F. Byrnes. While losing is never fun, Greer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while James F. Byrnes is ranked tenth).
Loss or not, Greer got some senior leadership from Jalasia Lewis who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and Clark-Lamelle who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Clark-Lamelle's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Samora Moody, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Bluffton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season. They took their game on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 60-33 victory over Hampton County. The win was familiar territory for Bluffton who now have three in a row.
It was another big night for Heyward, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, ten assists, and nine steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Bluffton's points. Amirah Brown was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
Greer now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Bluffton, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Greer hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.9 points per game. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 60.3 points per game. The only thing between Greer and another offensive beatdown is Bluffton.
