It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Colonial Grenadiers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against University and snuck past 80-77. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
University's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Maurer, who scored 22 points along with 5 rebounds. The contest was Maurer's third in a row with at least ten points. Levi Hubbard was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Colonial and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colonial will take on Lake Mary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Mary will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Colonial is ranked 61st). As for University, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Titusville at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Titusville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
