Basketball Recap: Central City Beats Lakeview for Their 13th Straight Win

Central City waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They blew past the Lakeview Vikings 68-48. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Vikings are ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydni Homolka, who went 8-for-15 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. What's more, Homolka also posted a 53% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Journi Schindler was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Central City was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They racked up six more assists than Lakeview's also-impressive total of 11.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hadley Hornung, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc on her way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Mejstrik, who posted eight points and 11 boards.

Central City pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points over those games. As for Lakeview, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Central City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-25 win against Fullerton on the 14th. Lakeview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
