Excelsior Charter hasn't had much luck against Academy for Academic Excellence recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Knights at 3:15 p.m. Excelsior Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Excelsior Charter beat Big Bear 11-8. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won six in a row.
Rylie Hunsaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Excelsior Charter let Evangeline Archuleta and Tristen Gonzalez run wild. Archuleta went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That home run was Archuleta's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alany Esparza, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Excelsior Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Academy for Academic Excellence came up short against Riverside Prep on Thursday, falling 14-4. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Dayleen De Los Cuetos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Academy for Academic Excellence now has a losing record of 7-8-1. As for Excelsior Charter, they now have a winning record of 8-7-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Excelsior Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Academy for Academic Excellence struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Excelsior Charter suffered a grim 17-6 defeat to Academy for Academic Excellence in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
