The Pensacola Christian Academy Warriors fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 82-81 to the Knights. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Monday (77), Pensacola Christian Academy still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Pensacola Christian Academy had strong showings from Quincy Williams, who scored 31 points along with 5 rebounds, and Matthew Johnson, who scored 23 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Williams scored a full 38.3% of Pensacola Christian Academy's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Michael Day was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Pensacola Christian Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Bayou Christian only pulled down five.
Rocky Bayou Christian was led to victory by Calix Mccune and Devin Hicks. Mccune scored 29 points, while Hicks scored 29 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The contest was Mccune's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Duplichean, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds.
Pensacola Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Rocky Bayou Christian, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pensacola Christian Academy will challenge Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rocky Bayou Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Freeport at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
