5A Region 4 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Briarwood Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 5A Region 4. The Lions defeated Shelby County 43-7 earlier in the week.
Sylacauga extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Carroll Catholic, 31-30. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Aggies.
Homewood's dynamic duo of Luke Porter and Derico Harris proved tough for Ramsay to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Porter threw for 44 yards and one touchdown and Harris had 44 yards receiving.
Kenneth Johnson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 167 yards on 21 carries as the Cavaliers topped the Rams. Teammate Wesley Dismukes added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Chance Britnell of Chilton County is the league leader in passing yards this season with 359. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, Carroll Catholic's Johnson has rushed for 381 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Devonte Wallace. The Homewood star has nine catches for 192 yards.
The Tigers moved up to 77 from 124 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 30-0 win over Talladega helped Chilton County improve its standing.
