Softball Recap: Southwest SD Beats Monte Vista for Their Third Straight Victory

The matchup between Southwest SD and Monte Vista on Thursday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Southwest SD Raiders blew past the Monte Vista Monarchs 17-3. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won three matches in a row.

Daniela Nieto made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Southwest SD got a massive performance out of Samantha Ramirez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Ramirez has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aketzalli Rodriguez, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Southwest SD always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .794. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southwest SD now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Monte Vista, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, Southwest SD and Monte Vista will both be playing Hoover the next time they take the field. Monte Vista will host Hoover at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Southwest SD will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
