The Armstrong Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They strolled past J.R. Tucker with points to spare, taking the game 75-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Armstrong's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but De'vonte Walker led the charge by scoring 22 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Walker has scored at least 25% of Armstrong's points. Devon Epps was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Armstrong and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for J.R. Tucker, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Armstrong will be playing in front of their home fans against Varina at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Varina presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Armstrong in Virginia (Varina is ranked 27th, while Armstrong is ranked 273rd). As for J.R. Tucker, they will head out on the road to face off against Glen Allen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
