Liberty has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. After both having extra time off, the Liberty Patriots and the Bishop Gorman Gaels will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 21st. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Liberty had no problem doing just that two weeks ago. They strolled past Shadow Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 27-8. Liberty pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Shadow Ridge cut but never quite recovered from.
Liberty got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyrese Smith out in front who threw for 181 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Jayden Robertson was in the mix too, providing Liberty with three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman stacked a ninth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard two weeks ago. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 63-12 victory over Coronado. The victory was just business as usual for Bishop Gorman, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Micah Kaapana was a one-man wrecking crew for Bishop Gorman as he rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Derek Meadows did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 86 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Coronado to a paltry 87 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bishop Gorman's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Coronado's QB won't forget Keytrin Harris anytime soon given Harris sacked him three times.
Liberty pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.0 points per game. As for Bishop Gorman, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Liberty was taken down by Bishop Gorman 49-6 in their previous meeting back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bishop Gorman's Micah Alejado, who threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Now that Liberty knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
