Softball Game Preview: Bothell Cougars vs. Hazen Highlanders

The Bothell Cougars will face off against the Hazen Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Bothell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Bothell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Redmond, who was ranked fifth at the time (Bothell was ranked 21st). The Cougars were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Mustangs on Friday. Considering the Cougars have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Hall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Berlin Roberts and Johna Bellecourt did most of the damage at the plate: Roberts went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Bellecourt got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Roberts has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kolbi Schmer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Bothell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redmond only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Hazen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 17-2 to Lake Washington. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 28, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Hazen's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Bothell, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

Everything went Bothell's way against Hazen in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Bothell made off with a 17-1 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
