Baseball Recap: Homer Drops Highest Score of Season Against Addison

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Homer). They never let the Addison Panthers get on the board and left with a 22-0 win on Monday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Zak Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Homer: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Smith was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brock Butler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, four runs, and three doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Homer's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Isaiah Sullivan was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Homer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Homer pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Addison, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homer will venture away from home to take on Manchester at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Addison, they will head out to square off against Vandercook Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers are facing the Jayhawks at the right time seeing as the Jayhawks are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
