The Tolleson Wolverines struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the West Point Dragons had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Tolleson fell to West Point 40-35. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Tolleson of the 67-57 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, Tolleson saw an underclassman step up: Rico Blassingame scored 22 points along with three steals. Blassingame hasn't dropped below 19 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Judah Lancaster, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Mijahi Baldwin was his usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds for West Point. Jacob Arevalo was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Tolleson's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for West Point, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Tolleson will be playing at home against Valley Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Tolleson is ranked 122nd, while Valley Vista is ranked 127th). As for West Point, they will head out on the road to take on Shadow Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Point focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
