The Noblesville Millers will head out on the road to face off against the New Palestine Dragons at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Noblesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Noblesville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Lake Central, who was ranked third at the time (Noblesville was ranked sixth). The Millers came out on top against the Indians by a score of 7-4 on Saturday.
Emme Yee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Izzy Zapp was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Maggie Kern, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Noblesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Palestine). Everything went their way against Mt. Vernon on Thursday as they made off with a 14-0 win. The Dragons have beaten the Marauders the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Marauders has come to flipping the script.
New Palestine let Katie Hirschy and Maddie Engle run wild. Hirschy went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Engle went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Callie Cromwell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
Noblesville's record now sits at 9-1. As for New Palestine, their record is now 10-1.
Noblesville's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Millers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for New Palestine, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Noblesville continue to outrun the ball?
Noblesville couldn't quite finish off New Palestine in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 18-16. Can the Millers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
