Softball Recap: Howard Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Howard's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Long Reach Lightning an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kiersten Black made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meleah Hannie, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

The victory snapped Howard's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-4-1 record. As for Long Reach, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-6.
