Even though the Lakewood Lancers have not done well against the Downey Vikings recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Lakewood blew past Downey 67-46. Given Lakewood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Downey is ranked 447th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Keaton Lewis, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Raphael Johnson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Downey saw an underclassman step up: Shane Costello scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Costello scored 15 or more points. Tyler Harris was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Downey struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lakewood pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Lakewood and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
