On Friday, The Ellenville Blue Devils faced the Rondout Valley Ganders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ellenville narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Rondout Valley 32-30. The win was familiar territory for Ellenville who now have five in a row.
Ellenville was led to victory by Dylan Nero and Jacob Wright. Nero rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, while Wright rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Wright hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
Ellenville's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Rondout Valley, Millbrook/Webutuck, and Onteora. As for Rondout Valley, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellenville will take on Millbrook/Webutuck at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Millbrook/Webutuck is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Rondout Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Onteora at 5:55 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (Onteora is ranked 24th, while Rondout Valley is ranked 15th).
