The Coastal Academy Stingrays will challenge the Santa Fe Christian Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, Coastal Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Tri-City Christian. They won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 14-13. The victory was nothing new for the Stingrays as they're now sitting on three straight.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe Christian). They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over Francis Parker on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won four in a row.
Torin Bennett made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Maya Tyszkiewicz and Maddie Binnie did most of the damage at the plate: Tyszkiewicz went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Binnie went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Tyszkiewicz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Crecion, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Santa Fe Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Coastal Academy pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Santa Fe Christian, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Coastal Academy beat Santa Fe Christian 5-0 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Stingrays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
