The Liberty Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by Independence on the road and fell 68-38. Liberty was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-14.
Leading Independence to victory were Harmony Mills and Lacey Goodson. Mills scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Goodson scored 29 points along with five rebounds. Mills hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Wooten, who scored two points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Independence used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Liberty. And. Mackenzie Cadle made the most of the opportunity, scoring eight points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Liberty dropped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Independence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Shady Spring at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Liberty is facing Shady Spring at the right time seeing as Shady Spring is stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Independence, they will head out on the road to take on Montcalm at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Independence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
