The El Dorado Aztecs were the 45-43 winner over the Farmington Scorpions when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. El Dorado's rough 57-33 defeat to Farmington on Saturday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, El Dorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 526th in Texas, while Farmington is ranked first in New Mexico).
El Dorado's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aryam Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Hannah Hicks who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played.
This is the second loss in a row for El Dorado and nudges their season record down to 10-11. As for Farmington, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
El Dorado will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Montwood at 7:30 p.m. Farmington and Aztec will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Aztec focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Friday.
