Denmark-Olar is 8-2 against the Fighting Hawks since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Denmark-Olar Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks at 8:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Denmark-Olar beat the Blue Devils 56-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Denmark-Olar.
It was another big night for Treveon Hinton, who scored 20 points along with six steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that he posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tykeen Ross, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Blackville-Hilda scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against Wagener-Salley by a score of 77-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Blackville-Hilda's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Mcfadden, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Mcfadden has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Arkel Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five steals.
Denmark-Olar's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Blackville-Hilda, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Denmark-Olar and the Fighting Hawks are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Denmark-Olar hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.2 points per game. However, it's not like Blackville-Hilda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Denmark-Olar against the Fighting Hawks in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 73-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Denmark-Olar since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
