Baseball Recap: Excel Takes a Loss

Excel fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Cottage Hill Christian Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Trent Williams was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played.

Williams wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Adams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Excel's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Cottage Hill Christian Academy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.

Coming up, Excel will challenge Andalusia at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cottage Hill Christian Academy, they will take on Baker at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
