Port of Los Angeles made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mary Star of the Sea, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Port of Los Angeles was the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Mary Star of the Sea on Tuesday.
Alyssa Setka was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Setka was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Port of Los Angeles got a massive performance out of Samantha Cordova, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Rochelle Watkins was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Port of Los Angeles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Peninsula didn't have quite enough to beat Woodrow Wilson on Monday and fell 3-2. The Panthers have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Peninsula saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Gonzalez brought in this season.
Peninsula's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Port of Los Angeles, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Peninsula's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Port of Los Angeles has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495.
