Anthracite recap October 8, 2013
Mahanoy Area added to the longest winning streak in Anthracite this week by beating Carson Long Military Academy, 72-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Golden Bears.
Marian Catholic made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,068 from 8,662. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 25-0 victory over Panther Valley last week.
Tamaqua's dynamic duo of Nate Edmonds and Tyler Hope proved tough for North Schuylkill to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Edmonds threw for 77 yards and 1 touchdown and Hope had 62 yards receiving.
William Casella was a beast in the backfield as Schuylkill Haven beat Shenandoah Valley.
Casella was a passing and rushing force as the Hurricanes defeated the Blue Devils.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Dustin Vandermartin. The Tamaqua star has 10 catches for 291 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Mahanoy Area takes on second place Jim Thorpe.
There should be lots of points scored when Schuylkill Haven and the Blue Raiders face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Mike Farr's team comes in having scored 175 this season, while Tamaqua has scored 161. The Hurricanes scored 48 points last week as they topped Shenandoah Valley.
Mahanoy Area led the league in scoring this week after putting up 72 points on the Warriors.
