Montgomery Academy found their leader in underclassman Reid Mcbride, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 188 yards and a touchdown on only 17 passes. Mcbride got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 51 yards. D.J. Vinson was Mcbride's top target, picking up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Montgomery Academy wouldn't let Houston Academy keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Montgomery Academy can thank John Bennett Lester and David Whisenhunt for forcing both of them. Whisenhunt also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack, forcing a fumble, and making eight total tackles.
Montgomery Academy's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Houston Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Montgomery Academy will square off against Wicksburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Houston Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Slocomb at 7:00 p.m.
